#ShelterInPlace

Updated: May 19, 2020

Looking to help your community? Here's a look at how businesses in the Frogtown community have been doing their part and how you can help them:

SUAY SEW SHOP

Suay Sew Shop is a community supported remade sewing shop in Frogtown. They are currently producing high quality masks for healthcare workers and everyday people who require personal protection equipment. This is especially important since Mayor Garcetti has recommend all Angelenos wear face coverings while in public spaces. Suay has dialed in their production and are nearing their goal of producing 10,000 masks per week.

To keep this effort going, they are taking donations to fund supplies. For more information and to donate, check out their go fund me page here.

LA Más

LA Más is launching an initiative to reach members of our community who need immediate assistance during the health crisis. Their goal is to have a system in place with clear resources by next Friday, April 10th with dozens of volunteers trained and ready to make calls to our neighbors.

To help us get there, we plan to call 50 community members next week and ask if they need help with food/meal delivery, rent/mortgage information, unemployment benefits information, and anything that would be helpful. We will have a Community Relief Fund with cash-assistance as well.

After the trial period next week, we will review our process and share what we have learned about community needs. If you are able to join this effort, please let us know if you're willing to support and if could provide assistance with the following:

  • Community Contacts | If you have a list of community contacts we can reach out to, please share that list by next Monday, April 6 at 10:00 am.

  • Volunteer Training | Our goal is to refine the system and hold our first trainings on Friday, April 10th. If you are interested in participating let us know. Also, if you would like to help recruit additional volunteers, please share the following information:

A group of Elysian Valley organizations is launching a calling system to connect resources to community members who need immediate assistance during the health crisis, such as food delivery, rent or mortgage information, unemployment filing, or fun family activities at home. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering to call our neighbors. We will be hosting a 30-minute online training session on Friday, April 10th, which you can join at either 12:00 pm or 2:00 pm.

WAX PAPER

Our local sandwich artists are still slinging meals and staying strong. While keeping the business running with to-go orders, Wax Paper has managed to find time to take care of people in need by providing food to the Children’s Hospital through DINE 11 and also making sure high risk seniors get taken care of.

To contribute: BUY A GIFT CERTIFICATE

They’re using money from gift certificates to provide food for local seniors in need. This is a great way to either send food to someone you know, or to allow Wax Paper to distribute food to a senior they know who could use the donation.

*In addition to that, it will help their shop stay open and keep their employees paid*

For to-go orders, please use Caviar

OPERATION PPE

USC Architecture has organized Operation PPE, a call to arms for designers and firms with access to 3D printing equipment to print approved N95 masks and face shields that will be distributed to USC Keck Medcine, County USC Hospital, and others. Designs have been approved for specific uses within the medical field during the urgent response to COVID-19.

Tracy A. Stone Architect along with 100+ firms/individuals are participating to manufacturer masks and face shields. Do you have access to a 3D printer or have extra filament? We still need more people to contribute!
